From our parent company – Active Escapes, we have created a beautiful oasis for fitness and yoga in our home town of Melbourne that resembles the experience our clients receive at our retreat style classes in Bali and the Maldives.

We want you to feel at home in our studio, in a relaxed and comfortable environment where you can enjoy a calm yoga session or hard fitness class.

Our teachers are experienced in various styles of fitness, pilates and yoga. You can choose from a full body fitness class, boxing, hot pilates or a more gentle Yoga practise.

Our space has two individual area’s for both fitness and yoga above our Active Style retail activewear shop at 98 Fletcher Street, Essendon.

Active Classes

Yin Yoga Active Studio Essendon

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a restorative, relaxing Yoga style which focuses on improving flexibility of the joints, connective tissue and fascia. Most of the postures are seated and held for 3-5 minutes, giving you a deep stretch so you leave feeling refreshed and renewed. Yin Yoga is suitable for all levels and is a perfect way to compliment stronger yoga styles and active workouts.

Vinyasa Yoga

Our Vinyasa Yoga classes combine breath to movement and lets you move between the postures in flowing transitions. This class has more movement than the classical yoga class. Our instructors will give you different options to either make your practice more advanced or restorative. Suitable for all levels.

Yoga Active Studio

Restorative Yoga

This nourishing practice uses supported postures to facilitate deep release, increase flexibility and allow space for mindfulness. Complimentary to more active classes this class will challenge you in a completely different way. Suitable to all levels and specifically designed to improve tranquility, flexibility and symmetry.

Pilates Active Studio


These classes are seriously upbeat and incorporate traditional mat pilates exercises, plus a revolutionary mix of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and weight work to strengthen your core and tone your body. Each class will follow a similar sequence but the order and focus will vary from class to class. Suitable for all fitness levels, these classes are high-energy and great fun thanks to a playlist of inspiring beats. Plus, you’ll burn calories and detoxify your body as each class is performed in a hot room..

Full Body Fitness Active Studio

Full Body Fitness

Our full body fitness classes are a fun group workout where you will experience different forms of resistance training. This class often incorporates high intensity interval or Tabata styles of training that involve bursts of energy followed by a short of period of rest. You can also expect fun circuits using equipment such as kettle bells and medicine balls. Come in for a great fat-burning experience!

Boxing Fit Active Studio

Box Fit

BoxFit is high-energy group workout that places an emphasis on boxing and incorporates solid pad work with bodyweight circuit training. BoxFit is available to all fitness levels. BoxFit will have you sweating, relieving stress, burning calories and having fun all at the same time.

30 Minute Hit Active Studio

30 Minute Hit

HIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is a fast paced effective workout perfect to fit in before the afternoon rush! This class is based off multiple variations of HIIT training including Tabata. This specific style of training give’s you the best results in a short amount of time due to the intensity of the session. Although geared to a higher level of fitness, there will always be modifications for lower fitness as well and beginners are welcome!

Alex got her inspiration from a back injury that instead of hindering her fitness inspired her to learn about all different types of high intensity and body weight training that healed her injury and gave her a passion to help others see how powerful and healing our own bodies can be! Barbara went to her first pilates class because it was what all the celebrities were talking about, and surely enough, she instantly fell in love from day one. The way mind-body movement was incorporated into each class, inspired her to become an instructor and be able to offer others access to their own positive mind-body potential. Pilates offers her an escape from her busy life as a nurse by keeping her balanced, centred and strong. Her classes are designed to tailor to all clients’ needs, whether you’re a beginner or someone who has been doing pilates forever.

Jaci Hoystead

Yoga Instructor

Jaci’s yoga journey started in 2006 when she turned to yoga as a way to improve her running. She instantly fell in love with the practice and it has now become a way of life. She has explored Ashtanga, Bikram, Satyananda and Siddha yoga along with Tibetan Buddhism, Reiki and Vipassana meditation. Her classes are energising and purposeful that combine thephysical, spiritual and emotional elements of yoga. She is passionate about guiding students on their own personal journey, sowing the seeds for students to grow both on the mat and in daily life. Off the matt, Jaci works as a full time events manager.

Yoga Instructor

Fernanda has discovered her love of yoga in London and has practiced many different styles before she completed her teacher training at Somachi yoga when she first moved to Australia two years ago. Since then she has attended many workshops in order to increase her embodied knowledge of yoga and learnt from many teachers including; Lawrence pradhan(upeksha yoga) Will Lau( jivamukti), Les Leventhal, Lianne Metcalf, Karen Bell (psychosomatics) Chirstie Christensen and many others. Fernanda’s teaching style is dynamic, fun and challenging. She teaches vinyasa flow catered to every level, offering progressions students can chose whether to take or not. Fernanda is also a qualified psychologist and psychotherapist passionate about meditation, pranayama, breath, movement and flow.

Hire our space!

Hire either of our spaces (yoga room or fitness room) for your own private yoga, pilates, fitness classes or group activities. Both rooms are available for rent outside of regular timetable times.
